I guess I'm a traditionalist since I don't use machines to sharpen my knives--this isn't just great for Global knives--it works well on all types of knives. My boyfriend makes sure to keep the surface even so we won't have to buy another one from creating dips (common mistake for many novice stone users). My only wish would be to have it be a little longer. The ceramic material is harder than traditional stones, which gives it a different feel, but is just as effective, and won't warp the way whetstones do after multiple uses. Quality stone, uniform results. I use tooth paste (not the gel kind - the pumice kind) with a little water. If the grain gets occluded with metal filings, just soak a little bit and brush with a stiff brush. This process will restore the "cut".
